Working language: English.
A good knowledge of this language is essential for the benefit of the individual participant and for the course as a whole.

Participants: Applicants should be conservators - professionals or conservation students with a minimum of two years working / studying experience within the conservation.
It is essential that the participants have enough experience to benefit from the mutual exchange of ideas.

Number of participants is limited to 50 for theory and 15 for practical work.

Organisation: The course is organised by the Croatian Conservation Institute and supported by the Croatian Ministry of Culture in cooperation with Technische Universität München and the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam, Germany.

Objectives of the Seminar: Introduction to materials and techniques used in history in Europe. The seminar is conceived as a series of lectures accompanied with slides, followed by discussions and practical work to give the course participants the theoretical and practical knowledge essential for understanding the technique of marbling and selecting the best methods of conservation - restoration for that kind of material.

TOPIC:
1) Written historical sources on the topic of marbling - literature and documents from archives and their meaning
2) Different marbling samples / types through the literature
3) Historical development in different centuries
4) and 5) Natural stone - its forms and property in relationship with painted marbling. Presentation of marbles, granite etc. collection
6) Examples from working practice / Croatia - Germany
7) Possibilities of conservation
8) Marbling over painted layers of a good quality
