Panel paintings: conservation and restoration of wooden support

The Croatian Conservation Institute with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia organizes workshop „Panel paintings: Conservation and restoration of wooden support“ to be held from 10 to 14 November 2008 in the Ludbreg Restoration Centre. The workshop is intended for the restorers of paintings on the wooden support - the employees of Croatian Conservation Institute.
The five-day workshop program is designed to provide theoretical and practical demonstration of the methods and interventions on chosen examples.
The lectures and the practical part will run PierPaolo Monfaradini, restorer specialized in panel paintings on wooden support with long range experience on works of art from 14th till 16th century of Emilian and Venetian painters (Paolo Veneziano: Doge Francesco Dandolo and his Wife, Giovanni Bellini; works for the exhibition held in 2000 in Galleria dell’ Accademia in Venice, Giorgione: Castelfranco Madonna)
The topics of the workshop are: the characteristics of wood as material, conservation of artworks on wooden support, factors of degradation, construction techniques of wooden support, the history and techniques of restoration of wooden support as well as support systems of panel paintings and microclimate monitoring.
