International seminar and workshop, Ludbreg, Croatian Conservation Institute / Ludbreg Conservation Centre, 22nd-24th August 2001
The seminar/workshop which took place at the Ludbreg Conservation Centre included both morning lectures and afternoon practical exercises. Some 30 participants included restoration experts from the Croatian Conservation Institute, students from the Department for Conservation and Restoration at the Arts Academy in Split, the Technical University of Munich, as well as students from several English institutions of higher education.
The programme of this seminar/workshop covered the following topics: the study of supporting frames and materials (canvas and wood), the preparation of wooden panels, the basics of gilding, the preparation of canvases, the study of dyed and protective layers (painting techniques and varnishes - autonomous preparation according to historical recipes), the presentation of the main schools of painting, historical techniques in relation to historical periods, the modern approach - Delacroix, Turner, the French impressionists…
